Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study how to apply resource-based learning approach and 2) to develop mathematical connection skills of the 7th grade students' in the topic of statistics. The participants were 16 students in second semester of the 2019 academic year. The research used the classroom action research comprising 3 spirals, and the instruments included a set of lesson plans, learning sheets, reflective journals, and mathematical connection skills test. Content analysis and data creditability by method triangulation were used to identify the findings.

The research results found that: 1) The results revealed that the resource-based learning approach composed of 5 steps: (1) survey, (2) learning, (3) assessment, (4) apply, and (5) apply knowledge and publicize the work. Also, an instructor must check student’s prior knowledge, clearly specify a learning topics for surveying, challenge everyone to take action and participate in group discussions, use questions to encourage students to express their views. And 2) the students appeared to have development of the connection skills. They related the mathematics to other subjects, another mathematical concept, and daily life situations respectively.
