KEY FACTORS OF MOTIVATION AFFECTING THE DECISION TO PRACTICE PROFESSION OF DISABLED PEOPLE IN THAILAND

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to study motivation to practice profession of disables people in Thailand, 2) to study the decision to practice profession of disables people in Thailand, and 3) to study the motivation affecting the decision to practice profession of disables people in Thailand. The sample of this study was 109 disabled people participating in the academic service training program for the disabled people according to section 35 of PWD Outsource Management Co., Ltd. and Government Savings Bank. The research instrument was a questionnaire. Data were analyzed by statistics including frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test and multiple regression.


The results of this research indicated that: 1) the opinion towards overall motivation of people with disabilities was at a high level ( gif.latex?\bar{X}gif.latex? =   4.19, S.D. = 0.44). When individual aspects were considered, public relations motivation was at the highest level ( gif.latex?\bar{X} = 4.28, S.D. = 0.57), information communication was efficient and reliable. This was followed by curriculum / professional field availability motivation, which was at a high level ( gif.latex?\bar{X} = 4.35, S.D. = 0.47). An aspect with the highest level of the opinion was that professional training and curriculum was attractive ( gif.latex?\bar{X} = 4.37, S.D. = 0.69). Lastly, professional training location motivation was at a high level ( gif.latex?\bar{X} = 4.08, S.D. = 0.72). An aspect with the highest level of the opinion was that the location provided facilitated and comfortable devices for the training ( gif.latex?\bar{X} = 4.26, S.D. = 0.89), 2) people with disabilities in Thailand had a high level of decision-making to attend the professional training
( gif.latex?\bar{X} = 4.16, S.D. = 0.51). They viewed that professional training could provide benefits in terms of work progress, work security, and follow-up, which was at the highest level ( gif.latex?\bar{X} = 4.40, 4.28, 4.28, S.D. = 0.70, 0.86, 0.73) respectively, 3) for curriculum/professional field availability motivation, professional training location and public relations were positively influenced the sample’s decision-making to attend the professional training in Thailand (p = 0.000*, 0.028*, 0.003*). The findings are also used as the guidelines for those interested in studying about the factors affecting professional training and the need for professional training of workers in the organization.
