People’s Politics under Junta

Abstract

          The objective of this research is to investigate the significance of a democratic atmosphere and the assurance of rights and freedoms in the constitution for political movements and activities of People’s politics. Additionally, it aims to examine the impact on the People’s politics activities following the abolition of the constitution that safeguards people's rights and freedoms, as well as the situation under martial law. The study's findings indicate that a democratic political atmosphere plays a vital role in People’s politics. This atmosphere upholds the Constitution as a guiding principle for the People’s politics, offering support and guarantees for rights and freedoms, particularly freedom of expression and assembly. These freedoms serve as essential tools for the People’s politics to engage in negotiations, exert pressure on the state, and provide a channel for citizens to influence government decisions. Ultimately, the study reveals that a democratic atmosphere fosters open discussions, a critical aspect of public politics. When this democratic atmosphere is disrupted by coups d'état and military rule, the consequences for public politics become substantial. Political participation becomes limited, totalitarian control and repression prevail, open discussions are curtailed, and institutions and mechanisms for conflict resolution and dispute resolution fail to function effectively.
