The Development of a Supplementary Book of E33203 Thematic English 5 Course for Admission Tests for Matthayomsuksa VI Students

The purposes of this research were to 1) design a supplementary book of E33203 Thematic English 5 course for the Admission Tests for Matthayomsuksa VI students., and 2) study the opinions of Matthayomsuksa VI students at Panyaworakun School toward the effectiveness of this supplementary book of E33203 Thematic English 5 course. After the students studied the supplementary book of E33203 Thematic English 5 course for the online instruction in Google Meet for 4 months, the teacher-researcher got the sample from the students who volunteered to respond to an online questionnaire. The sample in this study was 12 voluntary students from the 51 total students who studied this course. The research instruments used in this study were the supplementary book of the E33203 Thematic English 5 course, lesson plans of this supplementary book, and an online questionnaire regarding opinions of Matthayomsuksa VI students toward the supplementary book of E33203 Thematic English 5 course. This questionnaire was developed from “Harmer’s Pre-Plan” Framework. The online questionnaire data were analyzed through frequency and percentage by Google Form and concluded by the teacher-researcher. The teacher-researcher found that:
According to 100% or 12 students, they agreed with the supplementary book of E33203 Thematic English 5 course in 4 statements as follows:
- ‘New’ language is introduced in motivating and realistic contexts.
- The language used in the materials is realistic – i.e. like real-life English.
- The language in the materials is the right type of language for the students.
- There is sufficient variety for the students in the subject and content of the materials.
The supplementary book of the E33203 Thematic English 5 course should be improved in the first 3 ranks as follows:
- The practice of individual skills is integrated into the practice of other skills.
- The subject and content of the materials is interesting for the students.
- The materials avoid harmful stereotypes of different members of society (e.g. women, older people, men, etc.).
