The Condition and Problems of Preserving Digital Archived Records of Archives Institutes in Thailand

Abstract

This research aimed to study the condition and problems of preserving digital archived records of archives institutes in Thailand by using qualitative research methods. The key informants included sixteen archival workers. The research instruments were a semi-structured interview. The research results were found that conditions of preserving digital archived records of archives institutes in Thailand consisted of 1) most archives institutes in Thailand have a written digital preservation policy. 2) Archives institutes in Thailand have digital preservation processes which consisted of migration, refreshing, emulation, and backup. 3) Archives institutes in Thailand use technology to preserve digital archives consisted of hardware, software, and network. Hardware such as scanner, audio/video converter, server, network-attached storage, storage area network, and portable storage device. Software such as commercial software, open-source software, and proprietary software. Network such as local area network, and internet. The problems of preserving digital archived records found in 3 aspects such as policy, practitioners, and budget. The results of this research will be used to developing guidance to preserved digital archived records more efficiently and will be used to create research tools for the next phase of research.
