Keywords:
digital information; library; needs; services; COVID-19Abstract
In this quantitative research investigation, the researcher examines the digital information needs of the service users at the Central Library, Ramkhamhaeng University (RU) consisting of the following aspects (1) services; (2) media; (3) communication; (4) relationships with personal factors; and (5) relationships with the environment.
Findings are as follows:
- The service users exhibited the needs for the services of the video group (video clips on YouTube, videos on demand, online sound, e-Learning, and e-lectures) at a bit higher level than the e-Books group (e-Books, e-Theses, e-Journals, and e-Newspapers). The members in the type of undergraduates needed the test bank services. They needed the PDF form for message services; JPC for picture services; MP4 for video services; and MP3 for sound services. They needed communication through websites, e-mails, and Facebook.
- The highest proportion of the service users were students, aged 18-35 years. They were library members in the type of undergraduate students with special interests in the disciplines of philosophy, psychology, religion, political science, politics, government, law, and language and literature. They had access to the digital information of the library to accompany their study one to five times a week through Smartphones. The environmental factor directly correlated with the digital information needs. The lockdown and the closing of various service places, the fear of COVID-19 infection, and the expense saving needs resulted in an increase in digital information needs.
