ANALYSIS OF ECONOMIC LOSSES FROM CALL CENTER GANG CRIMES : CASE STUDY OF CHANTHABURI PROVINCE

Abstract

Introduction: Call center gangs are a group of criminals who work as a system. They have two types of deceiving victims: deceiving with greed and deceiving with fear. The impact of call center gangs causes economic losses both directly and indirectly. The research aims to be aware of the value of economic losses and finds the way to prevent call center gang crimes to reduce the value of economic losses. Objective: 1) to study the characteristic of economic losses resulting from call center gang crimes and 2) to assess the value of economic losses from call center gang crimes. This research employed a questionnaire as a tool to collect data. The sample group is the population of Chanthaburi Province in 2023, numbering 134 people, obtained from convenience sampling. Results: 104 respondents received calls from call center gangs and 2 people lost property. The value of economic losses resulting from call center gang crimes includes: 1) The value of losses of those who lost property consists of the explicit costs of 1,772.60 baht and the implicit costs of 1,548.20 baht and the implicit cost of 224.40 baht. 2) The loss of the person answering the call in the call center gang includes only implicit costs of 6,069.13 baht when taking the value of the loss as follows The above calculation is compared with the population of Chanthaburi Province. The economic loss from call center gang crimes in Chanthaburi Province is equal to 25,111,293.07 baht.
