Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: The Five Precepts Village Project represents an approach to building a moral and ethical society through the application of the Five Precepts (Pañca-sīla) to everyday life within the community. Objectives: 1) To promote peaceful coexistence and social harmony by encouraging individuals to refrain from actions that may adversely affect the peace, order, and well-being of individuals, communities, and society as a whole. 2) To examine the application of the Five Precepts as a means of promoting a moral society among the people of Nam Tok Subdistrict, Thung Song District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, and to compare the application of the Five Precepts according to differences in gender, age, educational level, occupation, and income. Method: The study employed a quantitative research methodology, with data collected from a sample of 346 people through questionnaires. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Result: The people practiced the Five Precepts at the highest level ( =4.49). In particular, the practice of refraining from killing living beings received the highest ( =4.51). Furthermore, comparisons based on the five personal factors-gender, age, educational level, occupation, and income-showed no statistically significant differences. The major recommendations arising from the study are to continuously promote the Five Precepts Village Project within the community, integrate the principles of the Five Precepts into the local education system, strengthen the role of monks and temples as centers of moral and Dhamma learning, develop diverse Dhamma-based media suitable for different age groups, and support community-based mechanisms that enable local people to take a leading role in promoting and sustaining a moral society.
