MOTIVATIONS OF ELDERLY TOURISTS TRAVELING IN BETONG DISTRICT, YALA PROVINCE

Abstract
Introduction: Motivations of elderly tourists traveling in Betong district, Yala province. Research objectives: to examine the motivations and behaviors of elderly tourists who travel to Betong District, Yala province, and to study the relationship between demographic factors and behaviors that affect the motivations of elderly tourists traveling to Betong District, Yala province. Methods: This study employs a quantitative approach using questionnaires. The samples are 400 Thai elderly tourists who travel to Betong District, Yala province. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing with inferential statistics, and the relationships between variables were examined using Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: The findings from the study showed that the majority of elderly tourists are female, aged 60-65 years old, hold a Bachelor's degree, are married, and their occupation before and after retirement is trading/private business. They currently reside in the southern region, have an income ranging from 15,001 to 25,000 baht, and their primary objective is to relax with their family. They travel in groups of 2-4 people, mostly for 2 days and 1 night by private car, and prefer staying overnight at homestays/hotels. They mostly know/choose to travel to natural areas, travel 2 times per year, often during the season/festival, and their average travel expenses per trip are between 5,000 and 10,000 baht. The motivation of elderly tourists to travel is generally high in all aspects. Conclusion: The results of the hypothesis indicate that there are significant differences in the motivation of elderly tourists to travel in the area based on gender, age, education level, marital status, occupation before retirement, current residence, and average monthly income. The motivation of elderly tourists to travel is positively correlated with their overall travel motivation at the 0.01 significance level. There is a high positive correlation with tourism resources, tourism support, interpersonal relationships, and values. Marital status has a very high positive correlation with cultural aspects at the 0.01 significance level.
