BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY MODEL FOR LONGAN PRODUCTION IN NEW AREAS IN AN ERA OF GLOBALIZATION: A CASE STUDY OF CHANTHABURI PROVINCE.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to the formation of economy model for longan in new areas and globalization factors that effect to economy model of longan in new areas and to advice the ways to building a sustainable economy for longan production in new areas of Chanthaburi Province in an Era of Globalization. The research in Ph.D. used Transdisciplinary research which based on holistic thinking. The research method used a qualitative anthropological research based on an area-based analysis by studying primary and secondary documents, including historical interviews from hearsay and in-depth interviews with key informants who are longan farmers, longan buying operators, fertilizer and medicine store owners, and local elites. Qualitative historical ethnographic data analysis was used to generate the study's conclusions.

The results of the research found that:

The formation and globalization factors affected to the formation of economy model for longan production in new areas of Chanthaburi Province. We discovered that Potassium Chlorate could make longan bloom out of season without cold weather and the incoming of Chinese’s investor under globalization of capitalism economy cause un-sustainability to economy model of longan production in new areas. Therefore, there should be guideline to building a sustainable economy model for longan production in new areas of Chanthaburi through 3 mechanisms: community mechanism, government mechanism, and market mechanism.
