MAGICAL REALISM STORYTELLING STRATEGIES IN FILMS

Abstract

Research on Magical Realism Storytelling Strategies in Films is a qualitative research aiming to analyze the method of storytelling (How to Narrate) under the narrative paradigm using internal logic from 3 specific selected films from 2 foreign films and 1 Thai film were analyzed through the main elements according to the concept of Magical Realism together with the narrative elements and the theory of symbolism. The results showed that How to tell the story of the whole movie All are tied to a story that is a plot (Plot) composed by using the 5 concepts of Magical Realism of Wendy B. Faris to bind to Theme, Conflict, Setting, Narrative Point of View and Symbol, including Editing every picture every sound every word that appears in the movie, combined with Roland Barthes' theory of signs to create connotations to be used to create together to create a storytelling strategy based on the concept of Magical Realism in the film. And from the analysis of the three films, it was found that the magic or surrealism that was used in the film. It is not just brought to create a strange, beautiful, or strange feeling with the surreal fantasy (Fantasy) that gives excitement to the visual enjoyment when viewed only because the results of the study show that the work of Magical Realism focuses primarily on storytelling, it has been used as a tool to tell the truth about human beings conflict, It is a strategy that uses magic to expand the dimension of being. The possibility of the truth the narrator wants to present by combining reality and imagination to create a clearer picture based on the truth set of logic within the narrative and the structure of that society.
