Logical Thinking Ability of Grade 10 Students Through Sudoku Game

Abstract

This research was a Quasi-Experimental Research. The objectives were: 1) To study and compare the ability of logical thinking of students, before and after the event has been Sudoku. 2) To study and compare the ability of logical thinking among students has been organized Sudoku, students who do not receive the event Sudoku. The samples of this study were grade 10. students studying during the second semester of 2015 academic year, Chumpholphonphisai School, Phonphisai District, Nongkai Province, under jurisdiction of The Office of Secondary Educational Service Area 21. They were selected by Cluster Random Sampling from 2 classrooms, 50 students each class. One classroom or 50 students were assigned into Control Group, and another classroom or 50 students, were assigned into the Experimental Group. Then, they were tested their logical thinking ability by the test constructed by the researcher. Suduko Game was provided for the experimental group during 16 weeks, 3 days a week, 50 minutes a day. Total duration of experiment included 48 times. Later on, the logical thinking ability was tested again in both of experimental group and control group. Experimental tools used in this research are: 1) the Logical Thinking Ability Test with Reliability = 0.87. 2) Sudoku game with Reliability = 1.00 and 3) Journal writing through the approval of the technical experts. Two Group Pretest Posttest Design were administered in this study. Data were analyzed by the t-test (Dependent Samples). The research findings found that: Grade 10 Students’ logical thinking ability after obtaining the Suduko Game, in overall, was in “Good” level. Compared with pretest, found that their logical thinking ability was significantly higher than the pretest at .01 level. Besides, the logical thinking ability between the experimental group and control group, found that the experimental group’s logical thinking ability was significantly higher than those of the control group at .01 level. It was indicated that the Sudoku Game could be able to enhance grade 10 students’ logical thinking ability.
