Using digital technology to organize geography learning : Challenges for social studies teachers

Abstract

This journal focused on “The Application of Digital Technology for Geographical Learning Management” which was a subject of Social Studies which was the science for integrating Social Sciences and Humanities covering various sciences extensively. It was the content focusing on living together in the Thai and global community peacefully, being a good citizen, the faith in religious principles, knowing the value of resources and environment, patriotism, and being proud of Thai culture. Geography was a content of 5 content in social studies, religion, and culture subject areas, and had the knowledge connecting with Science and Social Science. Geography had the content modern to change and understand natural phenomena affecting the social environment because it was the content that studied the physical description of the earth, natural resources, and weather in Thailand and other regions in the world. The geographical learning management of Social Studies teachers had to have the knowledge and understanding of the content and nature of Geography. The skill of using geographical instruments was the media of learning management that was necessary for Social Studies teachers because it made the students understand and have knowledge of Geography.  The skill of digital literacy is the skill of using the instruments, tools, and digital technology in the present such as computers, telephones, and online media for educational management. For the application of digital technology for geographical learning management, if Social Studies teachers had an understanding of geographical content, and gave importance to the skill of digital literacy, they could apply the geographical knowledge for geographical teaching and learning management efficiently.
