Promoting Occupational Rights Among Citizens According to the Principles of Sangahavatthu Dhamma of Plai Na Sub-district Municipality, Si Prachan District, Suphanburi Province

Abstract

The study consisted of the following objectives: 1) to investigate the promotion of right livelihood for the public in Plai Na Subdistrict Municipality, 2) to compare the opinions of people on the promotion of right livelihood for the public in Plai Na Subdistrict Municipality, and 3) to explore the guidelines for promoting the right livelihood for the public, based on Sangahavatthu Dhamma, in Plai Na Subdistrict Municipality. The study was conducted using mixed methods research, with the quantitative method involving exploratory research via questionnaires with a group sample of 380 persons selected by stratified random sampling, while the qualitative method involved in-depth interviews with 9 key informants. The hypothesis was tested to explore the opinions of people on the promotion of right livelihood for the public in Plai Na Subdistrict Municipality, Si Prachan District, Suphan Buri Province, classified by personal factors. The statistics used were t-test, f-test, and One-Way ANOVA. The research results were found as follows; 1) The promotion level of right livelihood for the public in Plai Na Subdistrict Municipality was overall at a high, 2) The results of the comparison of public opinions found that people with different levels of education, occupations and incomes had similar opinions on promoting right livelihoods. People with different genders had statistically significant differences in their opinions on promoting right livelihoods, and 3) The guidelines for promoting the right livelihood for the public, based on Sangahavatthu Dhamma, in Plai Na Subdistrict Municipality, are as follows: (1) On Dana, which refers to giving, sharing, and providing assistance both with money and with the four necessities of life, i.e. food, shelter, clothing and medicine; (2) On Piyavaca, which refers to the use of polite and pleasant speech, without insulting or lying, advising useful things based on reasons and evidence, and the use of sympathetic and understanding words; (3) on Atthacariya, which refers to useful conduct in order to clearly realize the change within the country so that the local government organization may lead the organization and the public to reach the specified goals; and (4) on Samanattat, which refers to equal and even treatment, aims to promote the positive awareness, attitude, and behavior of local government organizations in the transparent, honest, moderate, fair and unbiased performance of their duties.
