Analysis of the Ten Kasina as a Basis for Vipassana Meditation

Abstract

This article aims to (1) explore the ten Kasina as presented in Buddhist Scriptures, and (2) analysis their significance. The ten Kasina serves as a foundational practice in Vipassana meditation. The research follows a documentary approach, utilizing descriptive and analytical narrative techniques.  The research results found that; 1. Kasina are ten physical objects or concepts, as described in Buddhist scriptures used for mental concentration. A practitioner focuses on a physical object during the meditation, using it as a stabilizing force to control mental distractions and calm desires. 2. The ten Kasina serve as the foundation for Vipassana meditation. Once a practitioner attains the highest level of Kasina meditation, this focused state can be utilized in future Vipassana practice to develop deeper insight, align with the teachings of the scriptures, and progress on the path to Nirvana.
