An Analysis of Vipassana Meditation Practice in Anattalakkhaṇasutta

Abstract

This research article aimed to study the content and important principles in Anattalakkhaṇasutta; to analyze the practice of Vipassana Bhavana in Anattalakkhaṇasutta.  It is a documentaryresearch by collecting information from the Tripitaka, related research documents.

The results showed that The Anattalakkhaṇasutta is a sutra that contains two important contents and principles: (1) Paṇca-khandha: the Five Groups (2) Tilakkhaṇa: the Three Characteristics: it is a sutra showing the truth of form, feeling, perception, mental formations, consciousness that falls into the rules of Impermanence, suffering, non-self, is the second sutra that the Buddha taught to five Bhikkhus: Forms, feelings, perceptions, mental formations, consciousness, all of them are impermanent, suffering, non-self.

The results of the analysis revealed that form is the nature that is destroyed by the power of heat and by the power of cold. Feeling is the indifferent experience of happiness and suffering. Sanya is the perception of memory. When a practitioner considers form, feeling, perception, body, consciousness according to the Three Characteristics, he sees impermanence, suffering, non-self, and loosening his firm hold on form and name.
