Perception of Lanna identity in Northern Thailand’s provincial government houses: an analysis of architectural identity and public perception
Keywords:
perception, identity, Lanna, provincial government house, NorthernAbstract
The objective of this study is to investigate the architectural elements of provincial government houses in Northern Thailand that allow residents to perceive the Lanna identity distinctly. A quantitative research method involving questionnaires was employed to test perception. The sample consisted of 405 residents from 9 northern provinces. The findings indicated that the perception of Lanna identity is strongly associated with roof components, particularly decorative elements such as Galae, Chor Fa, and Hang Hong, which were evident in the government houses of Chiang Mai, Phayao, Phrae, Uttaradit, and Lampang.
