Films and The Treatment of Depression in The Early Stages Stemming from Family Issues

Abstract
This study is qualitative research aimed at analyzing criteria to define the film genre for the purpose of obtaining information about using films in the treatment of depression, considering the film genre as an indicator of emotions. The research utilized textual analysis and selected a specific sample of 8 films. The study incorporated concepts from communication and art therapy, as well as various documentary articles, to support the data on the use of films in therapy. The findings of the study revealed that the therapeutic films shared similar genres and sometimes combined two or three genres. The identified film genres for therapeutic purposes were drama, romance, and comedy, with drama being the predominant genre. The therapeutic drama films focused on life stories that portrayed the beginning of the narrative, leading to problems and challenges, reaching a climax, and concluding with a clear resolution. These films facilitated cognitive processes and could lead to changes in thinking and behavior for individuals undergoing therapy
