Abstract
วิลเลียม ลิม สถาปนิก นักผังเมือง นักเขียน และนักคิด ชาวสิงคโปร์ ผู้มากด้วยประสบการณ์ และเช่นเดียวกับปัญญาชนอื่น ๆ ที่เป็นชาวสิงคโปร์ เช่น ตัน ฮอก เบง (Tan Hock Beng ) และเทย์ เคง สูน (Tay Kheng Soon) เป็นต้นได้ใช้ความพยายามอย่างมากในการมองหาอัตลักษณ์แห่งเอเชียจากพัฒนาการที่ได้เกิดขึ้นในภูมิภาคเอเชีย ซึ่งย่อม ไม่ใช่เฉพาะแต่สิงคโปร์ จากการพิจารณาบทบาทของสถาปนิกและนักผังเมืองในการสร้างสรรค์ความรุ่งเรืองในภูมิภาคเอเชีย หรือในทางตรงกันข้าม ในการก่อให้เกิดความเสื่อมโทรมในสภาพแวดล้อมจากปัญหาทางจริยธรรม การแสวงหาอัตลักษณ์แห่งเอเชียย่อมเป็นการสะท้อนถึงความพยายามในการทวนวัฒนธรรมกระแสหลักที่เน้นความทันสมัยตามแบบยุโรป (Eurocentric Modernity)
