Development of Strategies for Community-Based Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation in Kamphaeng Phet Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the states, problems, and factors related to community-based drug addiction treatment and rehabilitation in Kamphaeng Phet; 2) to develop strategies for community-based drug addiction treatment and rehabilitation in Kamphaeng Phet; and 3) to assess the strategies. This research was mixed-methods research. The samples consisted of 423 people who answered the questionnaires, including subdistrict headmen, village headmen, deputy district security officers, police officers, directors of subdistrict health promotion hospitals, and chief executives of the subdistrict administrative organizations in Kamphaeng Phet. The qualitative data informants consisted of subdistrict headmen, village headmen, deputy district chiefs, police officers, chief executives of the subdistrict administrative organizations, personnel responsible for drug abuse cases, and scholars. Data were collected using questionnaires, a focus group discussion, interviews, workshops, connoisseurship, and strategy assessment forms. The data were then analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and content analysis. The research results revealed that: 1) community-based drug addiction treatment and rehabilitation showed that the implementation of all items was higher than 50 percent. The overall problem was at a high level, whereas most of the related factors were at a low level. 2) There were nine strategies developed for community-centered drug addiction treatment and rehabilitation. and 3) The developed strategies were consistent, appropriate, feasible, and acceptable from a high level to the highest level.
