บทคัดย่อ

สังคมไทยในทศวรรษ 2520 พัฒนาเข้าสู่ความเป็นเมืองและความ
ทันสมัย อันเนื่องมาจากนโยบายการพัฒนาทางเศรษฐกิจและอุตสาหกรรม
ตั้งแต่ทศวรรษ 2500 การขยายตัวของเมืองทำาให้เกิดการขยายโอกาสทั้งการ
ประกอบอาชีพและการศึกษา เกิดชนชั้นกลางในเขตเมืองและคนเหล่านี้ได้ใช้
ชีวิตอยู่ในเมืองท่ามกลางความทันสมัยและพบกับวัฒนธรรมอเมริกันที่หลั่งไหล
เข้าสู่สังคมไทยในยุคการเข้ามาของฐานทัพอเมริกัน และทหาร กลุ่มนักธุรกิจ
ที่เข้ามาจับจ่ายใช้สอย รวมไปถึงรสนิยม แฟชั่น ภาพยนตร์จากประเทศ
สหรัฐอเมริกา

ไม่อาจปฏิเสธได้เลยว่า ตั้งแต่ทศวรรษ 2500 คนในสังคมไทยได้พบ
กับความเปลี่ยนแปลงทางสังคมครั้งใหญ่ ที่ส่งผลต่อความรู้สึกนึกคิดและความ
สัมพันธ์ของคนในสังคมอย่างหลีกเลี่ยงไม่ได้ หนึ่งในนั้นคือ ความเปลี่ยนแปลง
ของหญิงและชายไทย ที่ส่งผลให้เห็นอย่างชัดเจนผ่านสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์อย่างนิตยสาร
การเกิดขึ้นของนิตยสารสำาหรับผู้ชายที่ไม่ได้มีเพียงรูปภาพวาบหวิว
ของนางแบบ หากภายในได้บรรจุมุมมองของผู้ชายที่มีต่อผู้หญิงเอาไว้อย่างเต็ม
เปี่ยม บทความเกี่ยวกับชีวิตและชีวิตรักของผู้หญิง ความเปลี่ยนแปลงของโลก
ตลอดจนเรื่องเพศในเชิงวิชาการ ทั้งหมดนี้ได้รับการตอบรับและแรงสนับสนุน
ทั้งจากกองบรรณาธิการและผู้อ่าน โดยผู้ชายไทยสมัย 2520 มองว่าผู้หญิงได้
ออกมานอกบ้าน และมีชีวิตที่สัมพันธ์กับเมืองและผู้คนหลากหลาย แตกต่างไป
จากผู้หญิงในอดีต จึงต้องเริ่มเรียนรู้และทำาความเข้าใจความเป็นผู้หญิงสมัยใหม่เช่นเดียวกับความสัมพันธ์ทางเพศ บทความเชิงวิชาการที่นำาเข้ามาจากตะวันตก
สอดรับกับการศึกษาและค่านิยมที่ให้คุณค่ากับวิทยาศาสตร์และความรู้ที่มากขึ้น
ของคนในทศวรรษ 2520 โดยได้เปลี่ยนมุมมองทางเพศและความสัมพันธ์ระหว่าง
ชายและหญิงไปโดยปริยาย นั่นคือการมีเพศสัมพันธ์โดยพื้นฐานของความต้องการ
จะเติมเต็มความปรารถนาให้กับทั้งผู้ชายและผู้หญิงโดยใช้เทคนิควิธีและความรู้
ทางการแพทย์ การอ่านนิตยสารสำาหรับผู้ชายนั้น จึงไม่ใช่เรื่องของเพศและภาพ
นางแบบเสมอไป หากเป็นหลักฐานสำาคัญที่สะท้อนภาพประวัติศาสตร์สังคมแห่ง
ยุคสมัยนั้นๆได้เป็นอย่างดี

According to economic and industrial development policies
since 1957, Thailand was modernized as an industrial country. As
a result, the expansion of cities and urban areas led to golden
opportunities both for career and education. There also was an
emergence of middle class people. Such people lived in urban
areas and accustomed to modern life and American culture, which
flowed into Thai society since arriving of America’s military bases
in 1960s. Predictably, during 1950s-1970s, Thai experienced the
great transformation which effected their mentality and relationship between people and people.
One of these changes was men’s perception toward
women. It clearly reflected in magazines. This research found that
the widespread of magazine for men was not only for sex stories
and nude pictures but it also showed what men thought about
women in the age of transition. Many articles about women’s lives
and love lives, how the world had changed and articles about sex
in term of academic were the most popular topics among man
readers and writers. From men’s perspectives, women in the late
1970s-1980s remarkably changed from typical women in the past.
They worked as an officer in industrial and service sectors, tourism
and private sectors and they had different lives which related with
various types and groups of people. Thus, most men realized that
learning and understanding about modern women and also how
to manage sex and love smoothly were a crucial task in order to
develop a relationship with a woman. Moreover, articles about sex
translated from western journals and magazines especially from

the U.S. conformed to getting high education and modern value
among Thai middle class. These articles chiefly formed the new
perception about sex and relationship between men and women
in Thai society. It was, indeed, how to fulfill women and men’s
desire based on medical knowledge. In conclusion, not only for sex
purposes and nude pictures, reading magazines for men is an
important reflection of social history in modern Thailand from the
late 1970s-1980s.
