The Administrative Role of a Head of Department in a Basic Education Institution.

Abstract
This academic article aimed to present the administrative concepts of the head of departments in schools which consist of the following key points: 1) The application of administrative styles by the head of departments such as authoritative administration, democratic administration, and Laissez-faire administration. 2) Human relations and administration of the head of departments consisted of understanding the self, understanding others, and understanding the environment. 3) The characteristics of a leader as the head of departments consisted of being creative in the workplace, having knowledge of teaching and learning, considering the learner’s benefits as important, using research processes to solve the problems, commitment to self-development, and personnel development to become a professional teacher, having appropriation of personality and maturity, being a good role model, having a positive work attitude and optimistic consistently. 4) The administration of departments in schools, according to the administrative structure consisted of academic work, personnel work, budget work, and general work. These four components can be used as a guideline for administration of the head of departments in schools which will contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness in further school operations.
