Reflection of Spirit of Japan through Immersive Art Work by ‘TeamLab’ Group

Abstract
It has been widely known that contemporary Japanese art works are always based on Japanese culture as the main theme. One of the aspects frequently used as the main theme of several projects is the Respect to the Nature in different respects that have been widely known to be based on the perspective of Shinto Religion that has been the original religion of the Japanese. Examples of such concept are animations by Jibli Studio. Furthermore, art works that have been created with cutting edge techniques also reflect such concept. This paper concerns the study on immersive art works that were displayed displayed with Interactive Art Installation Technique by ‘Team Lab’ Group. This study is based on the real experience of me, the researcher, because art works in this style needs audience’ interactions. Afterward, the works by this group were analyzed how they reflected the respect to the nature. The findings from the study showed that works by ‘TeamLab’ Group presented the spirit of Shinto Religion through complex relationships between human beings and the nature, by reflecting through digital art works as follows: 1. Concept of Gods (Kami); 2. Concepts of Good and Bad Things; 3. Concept of Purification for Soul; 4. Concept of Purity and Integrity; 5. Concepts of the Understanding of Life and Death; 6. Concept of Balance and Harmony; 7. Concept of Participation in Community; 8. Concept of Connection to the Nature; and 9. Concept of Respect to Living Things.
