A Song Collection for Music Teaching According to Kodály’s Concept: A Case Study of Lanna Music

Abstract

            This research aims to 1) analyze the musical element of Lanna music, and 2) create a song collection from Lanna songs for teaching music according to Kodály’s concept. Qualitative research methodology was employed in this research. The research results revealed that 28 selected Lanna songs had 2-9 sound sets, 9 types of sound systems, time signature 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4. There are melodic forms: A, AA', AB, ABA', ABCB', and ABAB''AB'''AB'''AB''''. There are Rhythmic elements; whole note, half note, quarter note, eighth note, sixteenth note, dotted note, and rest note. The songs suitable for students in Grade 1, Grade 4, Grade 5 and Grade 6. A song collection was created from 28 songs which were classified into the music elements; types of music, sound set, sound system, time signature, melodic form, Rhythmic element and appropriate grade, used for teaching music according to Kodály’s concept.
