Memories Renew: Creating a Web Application for Alzheimer's Disease Understanding

Abstract

            Memories Renew is an experimental performance that combined applied performance and web applications. The objective of creating a performance has been presented the Alzheimer's disease conditions and created direct experiences for an audience through many elements in a performance such as storytelling, text, photos, and sound. However, a performance focus on audience reaction. Performance-making involved the following steps: First, researching and analyzing data on Alzheimer's disease and the patient's situation, and using them to create applied performance processes and activities for exploring the understanding of Alzheimer's disease among participants. Second, change academic information and results from the process of applied performance to the content of a performance by using the principle of creating a linear plot. Third, take the story to create the concept design and choose a presentation style for communicating the issue to the audience. Fourth, create a performance on a web application platform. Fifth, present and evaluate performance. The results showed that a performance communicated and created an understanding of Alzheimer's disease to the audience. The audience learned and realized about the condition of Alzheimer's patients, which comes from participating in the performance as a player-audience and learning through the experiences of the story's main character. And a web application performance reached the audience in all areas.
