The Mixed Methods Exercises for the Four Mallet Marimba Techniques for Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study of efficiency of the exercises and to study of attitude of the experimental group. This research was conducted as an experimental research design (A/B Design) with summarized data through the qualitative research method. The experimental group consist of eight undergraduate students who are currently studying percussion as a major instrument at The Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, Udon Thani Rajabhat University. The group experiment was carried out in the second semester of the 2018 academic year, which lasted for a length of 10 weeks. The results were as follows:


  1. The result of the assessments formed by the researcher, instructor, with observations by the researcher: The mixed methods aided the experimental group to improve their Four Mallet Marimba Playing techniques, by the mixed methods of practicing on the marimba and practicing on the floor.

  2. The result of the interview by the researcher: The experimental group was satisfied with the mixed methods. By practicing on the Four Mallet Marimba Method, it was a great way to understand The Four Mallet Marimba Method Playing correctly. By applying The Four Mallet Marimba Techniques on the floor, it was a productive way to improve the wrists strength. The mixed methods were an effective training process to practice The Four Mallet Marimba Practicing, which made the experimental group’s development in The Four Mallet Marimba Playing improve.
