Research on the International Chinese Teaching of Ancient Chinese Architectural Art through the Lens of Cultural Semiotics—— Take The Imperial Palace as an example

This paper delves into the application of ancient Chinese architectural art within the scope of international Chinese language teaching, viewed through the lens of cultural semiotics, with the globally renowned The Imperial Palace as its research nucleus. Initially, the paper meticulously examines the foundational theories of cultural semiotics, encompassing the definition and attributes of symbols and their profound interrelation with culture, especially focusing on core concepts of cultural semiotics, such as the domain of cultural symbols, Lotman's theory of text, and the pivotal role of symbols in cultural transmission, meaning creation, and development. Subsequently, employing a diachronic research approach, the paper traces and analyzes the evolutionary trajectory of The Imperial Palace's architectural cultural symbols, exploring the transitions in architectural styles and their underlying social, political, and cultural drivers, thereby uncovering its rich historical roots and developmental path. Moreover, this study profoundly dissects the cultural symbols in the architecture of The Imperial Palace, including aspects like layout, color usage, and pattern design, revealing their extensive cultural connotations and symbolic meanings. Additionally, this research emphasizes how the architectural cultural symbols of The Imperial Palace can be effectively integrated into the curriculum of international Chinese language education, analyzing current trends and challenges in cultural teaching within this field and proposing innovative teaching content and methodologies. The aim of this paper is to offer fresh pedagogical concepts and practical guidelines to the field of international Chinese language education, with the intent to enhance students' understanding and interest in ancient Chinese architectural art and Chinese culture, thereby fostering the global dissemination and exchange of Chinese culture.
