A Comparison of the Conceptual Elements of the Speech Verb “jiang” in Chinese and Its French Corresponding Words

The verb “jiang” in the Chinese language is a commonly used word that plays an indispensable role in interpersonal communication. While there have been numerous studies focusing on its semantic and grammatical processes, research on cross-linguistic comparisons is relatively limited. The use of the Conceptual Element Analysis method to compare and analyze the Chinese verb “jiang” and its French counterparts provides a specific tool for a deeper exploration of the subtleties within word meanings. This approach breaks away from traditional research paradigms on the semantics of verbs of speech and offers a new avenue for cross-linguistic studies on speech verbs. In the future, the findings of such comparative research are expected to be applied to the teaching of French and Chinese, offering theoretical support and practical insights.
