Creative Media for Moral Drama: An Analysis of the Nine Virtues Reflected in the Vessantara Jataka

Abstract

This article presents an analysis of the reflection on nine basic virtues that are shown in the Vessantara Jataka story. This story is high valuable in Buddhist literary which widely recognized in various moral contexts. The objective of this study is to investigate and analyze the Vessantara Jataka narrative. The researchers examined each of the nine virtues in the context of the Vessantara Jataka story and proposed guidelines for applying these virtues in the form of a drama that promotes morality, ethics, and inspires the audiences. Such as a character named Chuchok is used as a incentive for the "Dana Paramita" (perfection of giving), which enables Prince Vessantara's acts of generosity to achieve the " Bodhiñana" (enlightenment knowledge), culminating in the highest level of perfection in his tenth life and this ultimately leads to his attainment of enlightenment in the realm of giving before his final birth as the Lord Buddha."
