Abstract
The goal of this project is to develop a creative dance called “Kachin”. The Kachin traditional dance depicts the Kachin people in their everyday life of farming and weaving, living in reliance on the natural world. Ten female performers are dressed in tribal costumes, and the dance is performed in three sessions: 1) thirty-four postures depicting morning, 2) seventy-nine postures depicting the liveliness of the Kachin women, and 3) twenty-nine postures, arranged in a dance-row, depicting Kachin women building friendships in gratitude and harmony. The musical accompaniment was composed by the researcher using Kachin musical instruments, including the ching pho (the flute), the large gong and ching pho drum, with large cymbals to lend the performance a modern flavour.
