Inheritance and Innovation: The Use of Guangzhou Guangcai Porcelain from the 18th to the 19th Century in Modern Ceramic Art Design

Abstract

Over the past two centuries, Guangzhou Guangcai porcelain has become one of the important heritages of Chinese ceramic culture with its unique aesthetic characteristics and excellent craftsmanship. Through literature research and field investigation, this study aimed to explore the historical background, production technology and artistic characteristics of Guangzhou Guangcai porcelain so as to understand its origin and development, deepen the understanding of its production technology and compositional elements and explore its inheritance and innovation in modern ceramic art. The study found that Guangzhou Guangcai porcelain has various composition methods and is characterized by fullness, enthusiasm and magnificence through the various innovative design methods proposed in this study, such as theme, combination, edge, deconstruction and colour-changing. It is possible to integrate traditional Guangcai porcelain elements into modern artistic creation, giving them new vitality and adding new vitality to them. Guangzhou Guangcai porcelain carries on inheritance and innovation. It provides useful inspiration for its application in modern ceramic art and provides a theoretical foundation and practical guidance for the traditional inheritance and modern innovation of Guangcai porcelain design.
