Vocal Warm Up with an Integration of Physical Exercises in Supporting Kinesthetic Function

Abstract

Vocalists' voice training relies on their ability to use their muscles intelligently. By mastering kinesthetic and sensory learning, Vocalists will be able to memorize details spontaneously, automatically. The author realizes the importance of the concept of practice by integrating Yoga and Pilates into exercises to achieve kinesthetics to strengthen the singer's body as a kind of vocal instrument. The author has integrated science and vocal teaching approach to promote and develop knowledge of postponing organ deterioration by proposing four postures: 1) the posture adapted from Pilates- footwork on the chair, 2) the posture adapted from Pilates- footwork with wall, 3) the posture adapted from Yoga (Virabhadrasana: the warrior), and 4) the posture adapted from Hatha Yoga (Salabhasana: locust pose).


Therefore, this article explores the connection between anatomies of singing and kinesthetic function, the vocal techniques and exercises presented above, for maintaining effective vocal performance. This will also prevent injury from the use of the organs involved in the singing.
