The Creation of Costume for the Creative Dance, Sao Pak Tai (the Southern Women)

Abstract

   The purposes of this creative work are to design and create the costume to be used in the creative dance called Sao Pak Tai (the Southern Women) with a concept of presenting the identity of southern women inspiring the creator to study the cultural identity of the southern people. The concept has been developed from the people's identity in upper and lower southern regions to conceptualize the creation of performance costumes called Sao Pak Tai to reflect a new and unique framework of costume tradition. There are structural processes of making: 1) conceptualization, 2) costume outline design, 3) defining the material, and 4) costume production. From all processes, the creator has presented all ideas with the performance costumes called  Sao Pak Tai divided into two formats: the first format (used for performance sections 1 and 2) and the second format (used for performance sections 3 and 4) to make the performance spectacular and be able to communicate the plots of the performance. The performance costume has been shown in public through two platforms: live performance and online performance.
