Khru Sukhon Phumthong: A Singer Who Inherited the Singing Knowledge of Ban Bart Music School

Abstract

          This article presents the life and knowledge of Khru Sukhon Phumthong as a singer who inherited the singing knowledge of Ban Bart, Luang Pradit Phairoh (Sorn Silapabanleng) music school inherited by Khunying Chin Silapabanleng. Khru Sukhon Phumthong strictly used the singing guidelines of Luang Pradit Phairoh (Sorn Silapabanleng) because of her faith in the knowledge and teachership of Khunying Chin Silapabanleng, as evidenced in the historical music recording of David Morton. This article indicates that Khru Sukhon Phumthong is a female singer who came to learn singing after Luang Pradit Phairoh (Sorn Silapabanleng) passed away. The closeness as a student of Khunying Chin Silapabanleng made Khru Sukhon Phumthong learn and practice handicrafts. As for singing, Khru Sukhon is a singer who always uses a natural and clear voice. Her prominent feature is precise memorization and a wide range of vocal knowledge; especially, the way of singing known as  “trong tam khruang”, which is one of the methods of singing following the guidelines of Luang Pradit Phairoh (Sorn Silapabanleng) music school, clearly shown in the Chang Kin Bai Phai Thao, also presented in this article.
