The Actress Costumes of the Lakhonram: Charachatree Dance Troupe

Abstract

        This article aims to present the design concept of the dance-dramas costumes for particular usage. Studying a case study of a local dance-drama troupe Charachatree in Wisetchaicham district, Angthong province, is shown as the central area of the article.

        The concept of designing patterns according to the various components of each costume was inspired by the murals of the local temple and Thai church, influenced by local wisdom. That inspiration was developing the imagination of the designer to create the patterns used for the particular parts of currently used costumes. In terms of the materials used, the components of the costumes are made from lightweight materials (such as sequins and beads) of appropriate size, which is suitable for the performers who are senior dancers. Furthermore, the selection of the colours is also essential to signify the uniqueness of the dance troupe in order to allocate the particular costume set to fit individual dancers.
