THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL SUPPORT ON THE HAPPINESS OF THE ELDERLY IN PATHUM THANI PROVINCE, THAILAND

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate 1) the levels of social support and happiness among the elderly in Pathum Thani Province, Thailand 2) The differences in personal factors affecting the happiness of the elderly in Pathum Thani Province, Thailand, and 3) the influence of social support on the happiness of the elderly in Pathum Thani Province, Thailand. The target population of this research consisted of Thai nationals aged 60 years and above who were members of elderly associations in Pathum Thani Province, with a sample size of 384 participants. The researcher collected data using questionnaires, and the data were analyzed using statistical software with a significance level set at 0.05. The statistical methods employed in this study included frequency and percentage, mean and standard deviation, and multiple regression analysis.
Research findings revealed that: 1) the elderly in Pathum Thani Province perceived social support at a high level, whereas their overall happiness was at a low level. 2) Personal factors significantly associated with happiness included gender, educational level, marital status, and monthly income (p < .05), while age showed no statistically significant difference. 3) Social support had a statistically significant positive influence on the happiness of the elderly (p < 0.05).
