THE DEVELOPMENT OF WORK-BASED LEARNING MODEL FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION STUDENTS

Abstract

The purposes of this research study were to 1) develop a work-based learning model for development of Professional competence for Technical Education Students, and 2) evaluate a work-based learning model for development of professional competence for technical education students. The sample of the study altogether fifteen experts, eight educational experts from universities and seven experts from establishments. The sample were selected by using purposive sampling. The research instruments consist of a form to assess the suitability of work-based learning model for development of professional competence for technical education students. The statistics were used to analyze the data are mean and standard deviation.
The results indicated: 1) Work-based learning model for development of professional competence for technical education students has five main steps: (1) collaboration with the establishment; (2) creating an appropriate training plan together; (3) preparing students for internships; (4) internships in the workplace and (5) joint appraisal apprenticeships along with the steps to complete all the activities. And 2) the finding from experts evaluation of the model found that the model was appropriated at the highest level (gif.latex?\bar{X}= 4.64, SD = 0.49) because the model helped the learners to understand the content of industrial technicians correctly, to have actually worked in the workplace, to apply theoretical knowledge to solve problems encountered through practice until can be further extended to create own concepts and capable to using knowledge and create new experiences from real practice including working with others effectively.
