THE METHODS OF CREATING DRAMATIC ARTS DERIVED FROM MAGIC TRICKS

Abstract

The current research article is a part of doctor of philosophy dissertation aiming to explore the methods of creating dramatic arts derived from Magic Tricks. According to Magic Tricks application, seven techniques are defined as follows:  1) Appearance 2) Transposition 3) Transformation 4) Restoration 5) Penetration 6) Defiance of Natural including 7) Disappearance. The qualitative and creative research design were employed. In addition, the research instruments were relevant literature review, interview, information media, field trip, seminar, and artist’s standard criteria including the researcher’s experience. Due to the collected data, eight procedures for creating dramatic arts derived from Magic Tricks were analyzed and found:  1) Composing performance’s script inspired by Magic Tricks, 2) casting a group of actors who are good at modern dramatic-arts, magic-trick performance and gymnastics,           3) designing the styles of gestures and body movements for magic-trick performance adapted from modern dramatic-arts, daily-life actions and gymnastic gestures, 4)selecting performance's props, for examples spandex for Transformation performance, large cloth partition for Penetration performance including a trampoline, some paper boxes, a chair, a kettle and a book for Defiance of Natural performance, 5) designing sounds and selecting the band, namely Chamber Music, for performance's sound effect, 6) designing costumes in forms of formal attire, 7) arranging performing area at Black Box Theatre where is included with large square stage for conveniently moving props as well as 8) designing stage's lights to clearly convey the ideas of performance.
