The Representation of Hanuman in Dimension of Contemporary Social Culture in Lopburi

Abstract

          This research article aimed at to study the representation of Hanuman in the modern social and cultural dimension in the context of Lopburi city. The sample group was 16 artistic creators, selected using the purposive sampling method. The research instrument used was an interview form. Data were analyzed by interpreting the content. The conceptual framework used for the study is the theory of representations. The research found that Hanuman was used as a representation of people, places, objects in dimension of social culture as follows:                  1. Representation of Hanuman as a mascot in sports events. 2. Representation of Hanuman as a protector of danger, 3. Representation of Hanuman as a Chinese banquet for monkey,                4.  Representation of Hanuman as a representative of artists, 5.  Representation of Hanuman as a cultural tourist attraction, 6. Representation of Hanuman as a costume, 7. Representation of Hanuman as a military organization 8. Representation of Hanuman as a political movement      9. Representation of Hanuman as a symbol of people born in the Year of the Monkey,                 10. Representation of hanuman as a football club logo, 11. Representation of Hanuman as a talisman, 12. Representation of Hanuman as an object of faith, 13. Representation of Hanuman as safeguard, 14. Representation of Hanuman as protector, 15. Representation of Hanuman as posture of boxing 16. Representation of Hanuman as a creative economic soft power.
