Development of an Enrichment Curriculum based on Collaborative Learning to Enhance Third-Year Students’ Competency on Classroom Action Research at Savannakhket University, Lao people’s Democratic Republic

Abstract

         The purposes of this research were: 1) to study the components of classroom action research competency, 2) study the needs for developing classroom action research competency of third-year students, 3) to develop an enrichment curriculum to enhance classroom action research competency on collaborative learning for 3rd year students at Savannakhet University in Lao People's Democratic Republic, 4) to study the effects after the enrichment curriculum  implementation and 5) to analyze students’ satisfaction with the curriculum. The sample group consisted of 12 students through purposive sampling. The research instruments consist of an enrichment curriculum, a learning management plan, competency tests, and a set of satisfaction questionnaires. Statistics for data analysis included percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-ranks test
          The findings revealed that: 1) Students’ research competence in the classroom consists of 3 components, 18 indicators with highest level of an average score. 2) The needs for developing classroom action research competency of third-year students was a critical need for development as greater than actual status. 3) The developed enrichment curriculum comprised 9 components and was confirmed its appropriateness of all aspects overall at the highest level. And 4) the effects after the enrichment curriculum implementation revealed that students’ competency regarding knowledge, skills, and attitudes were higher than that of before intervention and the preset criterion at the .01 level of significance. And the students’ satisfaction toward the activities management according to the integrated curriculum was at the high level.
