A Study of Motivation and Second Language Anxiety Effecting on Japanese Learners’ Language Achievement: A Case of Ubon Ratchathani University Students in Japanese and Communication Program

Abstract
This research attempts to examine and analyze the motivations and Second Language Anxiety that affect the Japanese language achievement of students in the Department of Japanese Language, Faculty of Liberal Arts, Ubon Ratchathani University. The representative sample was 145 Thai university students of the Japanese Language Department, Faculty of Liberal Arts, Ubon Ratchathani University, 2nd and 3rd year, using a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. Data were analyzed using Mean, Standard Deviation and structural equation analysis. The results showed that learners are motivated by the most "future trends" such as "want to study in Japan", and "want to work in Japan" and students feel anxious about “Concerns about Japanese pronunciation and communication” such as “I am worried that I will speak Japanese in the wrong classroom” and their motivation to learn Japanese had a positive effect on their academic achievement. The statistical significance of learners at the .05 level and the anxiety in learning Japanese had a negative effect on the learners' educational achievement at the .01 level.
