The Lessons Learned of Successin Promoting Morality and Ethics of Students in Education Fund Schools : A Case Study of Ban Sunheep School Si Satchanalai District Sukhothai Province

Abstract

          This qualitative research paper aimed to examine lessons learned on the success in promoting morality and ethics among students of Education Fund schools: a case study of Ban Sunheep School, Sri Satchanalai District, Sukhothai Province. The sample was divided into 2 groups, making a total of 15 informantswhich includedthe school director, academic support teachers, responsible teachers for the Moral School Project, senior experts awarded for moral excellence by Teachers Council of Thailand, supervision representatives of Foundation of Virtuous Youth, the school committee chair, and parents, selected through a purposive sampling technique.The research instruments used in data collection were an in-depth interview and a group discussion. Content analysis was employed to analyze the data.
          The results were as follows.
          1) In terms of the process of moral promotion, the school set up a committee working on the student morality promotion, and a committee for the project monitoring and evaluation, organized a workshop to devise an action plan for student morality and ethics promotion, and implement a policy on moral and ethical development. All teachers were involved in the development of the school intoa model moral school.
          2) In terms of the output, it was found that every subject group proposed a project to promote student morality and ethics, and 17 projects were conducted with monitoring, evaluation and reporting of the project implementation to the school administrators about changes in student behavior.
          3) In terms of the outcome, the school had a policy on student moral and ethical development, decentralized to encourage each and every teacher to work on moral and ethical promotion projects, established a network formoral and ethical promotion which consisted of parents,and the District and Subdistrict Administrative Organizations. These operationsreinforced more desirable behaviors among the students, evidenced by the national gold medal awardfor moral project achievement, and the constant number of visits to the school by other schools and institutes since 2015.
