The Development of Grade 10 Students’ Problem-Solving Skill and Learning Achievement in the Physics Subject of Equilibrium through the KWDL and Mind-Mapping Techniques Mapping

Abstract
The objectives of this study were 1) to develop Grade 10 students’ problem-solving skill in the physics subject of Equilibrium through the KWDL and Mind-Mapping Techniques in order that the students made a mean achievement score of 70% of the full marks or better, and no less than 70% of the students passed the criterion and 2) to develop Grade 10 students’ learning achievement in the Physics subject of Equilibrium through the KWDL and Mind-Mapping Techniques in order that the students made a mean learning achievement score of 70% of the full marks or better, and no less than 70% the students passed the criterion. The study applied Action Research Procedures for the experiment. The target group consisted of 30 Grade 10 students in The Holy Redeemer Northeastern Region School during the second semester of the 2020 academic year. Research instruments included 1) 9 lesson plans on the Physics subject of Equilibrium basing on the KWDL and Mind-Mapping Techniques, 2) a 10-item essay type of test for testing the students’ problem-solving skill and 3) a 30-item, 4-choice objective test for testing the students’ learning achievement.
The findings show that:
1. The students made a mean achievement score in problem-solving skill of 50.33 or 83.89% of the full marks, and 23 students, or 76.37% of the group, passed the 70% criterion which is higher than the prescribed criterion,
2. The students made a mean learning achievement score of 23.13, or 74.67% of the full marks, and 26 students, or 86.67% of the group, passed the 70% criterion which is higher than the prescribed criterion.
