The Curriculum Development of Community-based Learning in the context of Yan Ta Khao District, Trang Province to Enhance 21st-century students’ Learning Process for Promoting Community-based Tourism

Abstract

         This research aimed to: 1) develop a local curriculum based on the Yan Ta Khao District context of Trang Province for the learning process development of 21st-century students towards community-based tourism promotion; 2) explore the results of the local curriculum used with students at Ban Yan Ta Khao School in Trang Province; and 3) compare the students’ knowledge and understanding of the local learning curriculum before and after their learning. This research employed a mixed-methods research design, and its population consisted of community members, community networks, educational administrators, teachers, and students at Ban Yan Ta Khao School in Trang Province, totaling 35 individuals. The research tools included: 1) a curriculum quality assessment form; 2) a student satisfaction assessment form; and 3) a pre-test and a post-test of knowledge and understanding. For data analysis, the mean and standard deviation were used, while the learning results were compared using t-test dependent.
       The results of the research were as follows:
       1) The local curriculum based on the Yan Ta Khao District context of Trang Province for the learning process development of 21^st-century students towards community-based tourism promotion consists of five units: the history and background of Yan Ta Khao District, Yan Ta Khao food culture, the Likay Pa performance, community tourist attractions, and ecotourism attractions. Based on the results of the curriculum quality assessment, the curriculum received the highest satisfaction level (x̅ = 4.54, S.D. =0.28).
       2) Regarding learning management, the overall student satisfaction with the learning units based on the context of Yan Ta Khao District in Trang Province was at the highest level (x̅ = 4.56, S.D. =0.36).
        3) According to the comparison of the knowledge and understanding obtained before and after learning, the students’ knowledge and understanding after their learning were higher, with a statistical significance level of.001.
