The Application of Brain Training Game Activities and Bibliotherapy to Enhance Aging Vigor in the Elderly at the Uttaradit Rajabhat University, Elderly Care Center

Abstract

This study aimed to 1) develop a set of brain-training game activities combined with Bibliotherapy, 2) study the effects of using the activity set on participation, cognitive response, and emotional well-being, and 3) study the satisfaction of elderly residents at the Uttaradit Rajabhat University Elderly Care Center. The research employed a five-step Design Thinking process: problem understanding, problem definition, brainstorming, prototyping, and testing. The activities were conducted as a five-week program comprising five learning activity stations. The research instruments included the brain-training game activity set and librarianship materials, a behavior observation record, and a satisfaction questionnaire. Data analysis employed frequency, percentage, mean ( ), and standard deviation (S.D.). The results showed that 1) an innovative five-station activity set was developed that was flexible and effectively adaptable to the physical limitations of the elderly residents; and 2) behavioral observations in three areas (participation, cognitive response, and emotional well-being) showed an overall average score of 2.03 (S.D. = 0.14), indicating a moderate level of satisfaction. This reflects that older adults can maintain concentration and social interaction well when appropriately stimulated. 3) The overall satisfaction assessment of weekly activities was at a high level (  = 4.49, S.D. = 2.95), and satisfaction with participation in activities was also at a high level (  = 3.62, S.D. = 0.99). The research concludes that integrating brain training games and Bibliotherapy is a professional tool that helps slow cognitive decline and restore emotional well-being, thereby sustainably enhancing vitality in older adults.
