Effectiveness of Mental Health Care Literacy Promotion Program of Eldely People among Village Health Volunteers, Pathumthani Municipalality Province

The purpose of this research was to study the effectiveness of the elderly mental health care literacy promotion program of village health volunteers. This research used two quasi-experimental research, measured before and after the experiment. The subjects were village health volunteers of 2 municipality. PathumThani municipality consists of 60 experimental groups and 60 ThaKhong municipality in the compare group. The instrument used in this study was a test on the level of the mental health literacy for the elderly, composed of 4 sections, namely access to information, understanding of decision making, and applying. Data analysis were conducted by comparing the mean and proportion statistics test. The results found that 1) the village health volunteers in the experimental group after joining the program had an average score of mental health literacy for older people ( =63.75, SD=9.98) higher than the compare group ( =39.7, SD=8.39, p < 0.001). 2) The village health volunteers in the experimental group after had the average scores of mental health literacy for older people ( =63.75, SD=9.98) higher than the before joining the program ( =41.65, SD=9.37, p <0.001). However, in the experimental group, there was a change in the level of mental health literacy of the elderly from an insufficient level to a sufficient level. Therefore, the elderly mental health literacy program of village health volunteers can be used as a tool to increase the level of mental health literacy in the village health volunteers for to care the elderly people in the community.
