Psychosocial Factors Related to Active Aging Promotion Behavior of Elderly in Elderly Club, Bangkok

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study on predictive power on active aging promotion behavior on overall dimensions and sub-dimensions of older persons with various bio-social characteristics through variables on former psychological characteristics, situations, and psychological characteristics based on various situations. The sample group consisted of older persons who were members of senior clubs in the areas of 50 district offices of Bangkok obtained by using multistage sampling. Data were collected by using 6-rating scale assessment created by the researcher based on operational definition whereas such assessment was improved to have alpha coefficient ranged from 0.539 to 0.903. The statistics used in the analysis are stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results of the analysis showed the following results: 1)  For overall dimensions, it was found that they could be mutually predicted as 43.40% with optimism as the predictor with the first priority; 2) For participation in activities, it was found that they could be mutually predicted as 34.50% with  social support as the predictor with the first priority; 3) For self-health care, it was found that they could be mutually predicted as 28.60% with optimism as the predictor with the first priority; 4) For stability, it was found that they could be mutually predicted as 27.70% with attitude toward the active aging promotion behavior as the predictor with the first priority.These results have important implications suggest guidelines for promotion  activities for the development of the elderly to be able to perform themselves leading to active aging and being a vital force of society.
