The Lessons of Training Mathematical Processing Skills for Elementary Students’ Competencies

Abstract

The world nowadays is a world of information data in which learners can access
data easily and quickly via a variety of media. However, there are inadequate skills and
not enough necessary performances to manage this knowledge for utilization or it can be
said that learners lack learning processes to develop competencies. The concept that
encourages competencies is known as Intelligence Quotient (IQ), which is not a good key
performance indicator for overall performances and achievement. On the other hand,
competencies are more expected for work achievements. This is because those who are
successful at work can apply their principles and knowledge into their work. In conclusion,
the solutions to educational management should be to adjust the learning process from
being content-based to being competency-based instruction. Teachers, as the doers, are
directly in charge of this important adjustment in classrooms. This paper will provide the
Lessons of Training Mathematical Processing Skills, which is in agreement with PISA test.
This lesson does not focus only on content, but also on the process and contexts. After
this Lesson had instructed, the ability of mathematical process skills those are the core
competencies of 850 Prathomsuksa 4 students was significantly higher than of those before
they were instructed at the 0.05 significant level, emphasizes learners’ competency
evaluation so that there can be a new opportunity to support teachers as a competency
encouraging tool.
