The purposes of this study were to develop basic psychological counseling skill training package for secondary school advisory teachers, and to study the effect of this training package. This research was divided into 2 phases: development of a basic counseling skills training package, and studying the effect of the training package. The participants were 14 secondary school advisory teachers under the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC). The instruments included 1) a basic psychological counseling skill analysis form, 2) a basic psychological counseling skills training package, 3) a basic psychological counseling skill evaluation form, and 4) a questionnaire on satisfaction towards the basic psychological counseling skill training package. Data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation, the percentage of learning progression and the efficiency of the basic psychological counseling skill training package with criterion of 80/80.
The results in phase 1 found that the basic psychological counseling skill training package for secondary school advisory teachers consisted of two parts: (1) basic knowledge of caring and helping students by psychological counseling, and (2) practice of basic psychological counseling skills using a short video clip to training teachers how to deal with situations involving common problems that teenagers face. For phase 2, the result showed that 1) the efficiency of the training package (E1/E2) was 88.20/80.00 which was higher than the criterion set, 2) the percentage of learning progression after training of the participants was 45.00, and 3) the level of satisfaction towards the training package was at the highest standard.
