The objectives of this research were: 1) to study the situations, problems, and guidelines for promoting the inclusive education of Thai and migrant students 2) to develop the art learning model for promoting the consciousness of living together 3) to study the effectiveness of a model with the sample groups. A sample of 41 students from second and third grades of ethnically mixed classrooms was divided into the experimental A and B group. The trial used a switching replications design.
The results showed that: 1) The barrier of living together among Thai and migrant students were prejudice and lack of cultural understanding. 2) The principle of the model was “Using art learning activities to encourage the ethnically-mixed students to express themselves, connect and collaborate with each other”. This principle consisted of 5 components: expressing the self through art, comparing the sameness and the difference of persons, learning from personal and cultural narratives, imagining others’ viewpoints and collaborating for shared goals. 3) After implementing the model, the results from test, behavior observation and in-depth interview revealed that the posttest mean score of the experimental A group was higher than the pretest mean score and the score of the experimental B group at a significant difference of .05 and this was retained after 4 weeks. The frequency of the expected behavior of both groups were increased and students expressed more positive thoughts about the self, the other and society.
